Securexam Student will refuse to start if it detects that Remote Desktop is enabled on the computer.

To disable Remote Desktop, do the following:

  1. Locate the System Tray. (This is the area near the clock on the bottom-right of the screen, and will have several small icons grouped together).
  2. Go through each icon and see if any are Remote Desktop Applications, such as LogMeIn or VNC, VMWare, RealVNC, and Cisco are common ones. (There are many other types and names out there).
  3. If you find an application, right-click and exit/close/disable it.
  4. Attempt the software again.

If you have RealVNC4 installed, complete the following:

  1. 7 Users Go to Start> in the "search" box type "Services". Open services and locate the "VNC" service.
  2. Right-click and "Stop" the service.
  3. Launch the software.

Note: If you are using a work/firm laptop, you may have to consult your IT department for assistance.

If the above does not work, complete the following:

Windows Vista 8,8.1,10:

  1. Right-click the “Computer” icon on the Start Menu.
  2. Select the “Properties” command.
  3. Click the “Remote settings” task.
  4. Click “Continue” if necessary.
  5. Remove the checkmark under “Remote Assistance”.
  6. If there is a “Remote Desktop” section, select the “Don’t allow connections to this computer” option.
  7. Click OK.

If Securexam Student continues to detect Remote Desktop, it will be necessary to disable the Remote Desktop services:

  1. Click the Start Menu.
  2. type into the “Start Search” field.
  3. Type the command “Services.msc” and press the Enter key.
  4. Click “Continue” if necessary.
  5. Right-click the “Remote Access Connection Manager” entry.
  6. Select the “Properties” command.
  7. Change “Startup type” to “Disabled”.
  8. Click OK to close the Properties window.
  9. Right-click the “Terminal Services” entry.
  10. Select the “Properties” command.
  11. Change “Startup type” to “Disabled”.
  12. Click OK to close the Properties window.
  13. Restart the computer.

At this point, if Securexam is still displaying messages about Remote Desktop, it is possible that the message is actually being caused by a problem with the laptop’s power management system.  The user should unplug the power cord to the laptop and try running the software again.

Thank you,
